Legos

27 February, 2013

MrCuddles got Legos for his birthday.

The other night, MyBetterHalf and MrGrunty were building a Lego garbage truck (BTW…a garbage truck is officially MrCuddles favorite toy). MsSqueaky went to the corner, drew up her own plans/instructions/design for the fastest car ever. And then asked me if I wanted to build it with her. Of course I did.

And yes, I am ultra-crazy parent super proud of the cool/neat thing my daughter did. Just makes me smile. I need to do more engineering projects with my girl!

MrCuddles B-day party

24 February, 2013

Today, we celebrated MrCuddles forth birthday. It was nice that four parents from the daycare joined us, so we could chat a bit more than the usual “hi” and “bye” if we happen to see each other at drop-off or pick-up.

It was lego themed.  We found a blog, that had “easy to do” Lego cookies. Well…  I was reminded about the difference of easy for someone who does it often, and not-so-easy for a first time user. I couldn’t even get the frosting red. (MsSqueaky was thrilled to have pink frosting.)  I did get the childrens to help frost cookies, they did alright, even with wiping their fingers off, and not licking the frosting off their fingers. In fact, yesterday MrC was shopping with MyBetterHalf, and I just set up the kindergartners, and let them go for it. I was in a different room. Every third cookie, I would make a suggestion when they showed me, and they would go back without complaint and fix the cookie. It was great.

The party was fun, after the food was served, and caked cleaned up…I just sat and hanged out with friends. Except when I had to take MrCuddles to time out because he was either throwing a truck, or throwing a pencil, or yelling at his friends.

By 5pm everyone had left, and MyBetterHalf went to her book club. The childrenos were tired, but they were nice enough to me to take turns melting down, so it wasn’t too bad. Bed time, went pretty easy.

Now to watch “The Walking Dead”.

President’s Day weekend

20 February, 2013

Saturday…uh…I don’t remember. Oh yeah, we went to playground, and had to hide under the shelter during the heavy rain + hail, while watching a double rainbow. Yeah, it was cool.

Sunday, I taught Bible class, over what has got to be one of the funnest chapters. John 9, Jesus heals a blind man. You got Jesus playing in the mud, mud in the eye, Pharisees arguing amongst themselves, a healed man getting fed up with the accusing questioning,…   too bad I’m not a good enough teacher to do the chapter justice.

After worship, there was a book-club, regarding taking a Sabbath. I took away from it, “take time to reflect, get closer to God…yes on changing diapers, but the dishes in the sink can wait.”

Sunday afternoon, I took MsSqueaky to park so she can practice riding her bike. MrCuddles joined us. MrGrunty wanted to stay home to watch the NBA All Star Game. I coaxed MsS back to the hill that freaked her out last time, and we started half way up, and she rode down, each time going up a bit higher on the hill, and thus a little faster riding down.

Monday… me & the childrens visited MyBetterHalf at her work for lunch. After, they helped my shop for pants. Both events were OK, and they were good childrens.  And back to the park for more play and bike riding. MsS was following some first grade boys on her bike. MrGrunty & I were practicing baseball…laughing a lot, because him hitting the ball so far and so consistently. (We were using the big plastic bat with wiffle ball.)

This morning, playing AngryBirds card game with the kindergartners… I won, and no one freaked out, we all were having too much fun laughing.

Neat stuff:

MsSqueaky… being crafty. Tonight she made a paper version of herself, rolling up paper into tubes for the arms. This morning, she was very affectionate, wanting to snuggle, and telling me many times “I love you Papa.”

MrGrunty… been practicing a lot on the indoor basketball hoop. He loves to play “down-town-nothing-but-net” where we shoot from the door way until we make a basket, without hitting backboard or the rim. He loves to practice blocking my shots. He still gets very upset if I get close to winning.  The other day, (and this is where a crazy dad is talking about how great his kid is at sport, sorry, but it was cool) MrG was running for a slam dunk, ( maybe 4 or five feet up ), and right before the ball hits the rim, he flicks it up, and it goes into the net. I complemented him, saying it was tricky like Rajon Rondo.

MrCuddles… after he got off the potty. He looked at me, “Papa, you go get my pants and my underwear, and I’ll put them on, and you got get your iPad and I can watch it,” he paused, sighed, “…that’s a lot of things.”

the weekend

10 February, 2013

Saturday morning, MsSqueaky & MyBetterHalf went off to get the car fixed. Finding out it would take 4 hours, they had some time to wander around down town Seattle. In the meantime, me & MrGrunty watched UNC Tarheels lose their game against the Miami Hurricane. Sigh. My boss is a huge UNC fan, so I cheer for them. During the game I sent him a few messages… “Sorry, MrG is now rooting for Miami.” He replied, “I might too.”  It was difficult to talk MrG into rooting for Carolina, because he likes the Miami Heat, Lebron was rooting for the Hurricans, and I mistakenly called Carolina’s color “baby blue”.

Saturday afternoon, MsSqueaky had a birthday party. MrGrunty had a friend coming over from school to visit. I stayed home with the boys. We walked to the park, oh-my-goodness…two boys together, do not pay attention to street safety because they are too busy laughing and having fun. MrCuddles tried to keep up with them, and was often trying to get the friend’s attention to show something. They played on the playground, played a bit of catch, and then went to go play at the creek. A small stick would be a person, tossed into the creek, floating away, and a big stick would be a monster they threw after the little one. They liked it when the monster got the person.

Saturday night, we dropped the childrens off to go have a date to celebrate being a couple since, Feb 11th, hang on, lemmme do the math… 1996. Thai food. My dish was good, MyBetterHalf was served a mediocre curry sauce. Then a book store. (I need to read more, write more. Sigh.) Naturally, the childrens were having too much fun and didn’t want to leave Leena’s kids. MrCuddles was playing with the two kindergarten girls, babies, and then pretending to go to sleep.

Sunday morning…I attempted to teach Bible class. But, eh…mainly me & my four students just chatted. The adults’ sermon was John 8:1-11, woman caught in adultery. (When I was young…a youth minister asked the class…”where was the guy?  Do you think the Pharasees let her get dressed before dragging her to Jesus?”  Me, I was clueless to what adultery was.)  Naturally I didn’t want to talk about adultery with 3rd graders. So I tried to go with using Matthew 7, don’t try to help your friend with a speck in their eye, when you have a plank in yours.

Sunday afternoon, we watched a bit of LA Lakers -vs- Miami Heat. Go anybody but Lakers! Wow, what a completely dysfunctional squad. The talent they have, the bad record they own. Almost makes me want to quit hating them. But, I must stay strong in hating the Lakers.

MyBetterHalf took the boys to the beach to meet friends from daycare. I took MsSqueaky to park to ride bikes with one of her friends. They  more played on the playground. MsS got scared, she went zooming down a hill to fast for her comfort level, and tried to stop putting feet on  the ground…no crash, but lots of tears.
